The topic at the January 16th meeting will be provided by Hal Kneller of GeoBroadcast Solutions.
Many will remember Hal from his many years at Harris and Nautel. GeoBroadcast Solutions is a relatively new company specializing in several technologies to improve coverage and revenues for FM radio stations by utilizing Single Frequency Networks (SFN).
Many have tried these networks in the past, some have worked, many more have failed due to implementation issues. GBS principals have done a great deal of research into why these have failed and how to make successful implementations. People in Tampa might think – we don’t have issues with coverage here, we’re not in the mountains. True, but many times station transmitters are not in the best location for the entire market or are “rim-shots” and through the use of GBS technology, optimizations can occur. Examples of both rugged and flat terrain networks will be demonstrated.
