Membership and Who We Are:

The Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) is the only organization devoted to the advancement of all levels and types of broadcast engineering.

With more than 5,500 members and 112 local chapters, SBE provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and the sharing of information to help you keep pace with our rapidly changing industry. SBE amplifies the voices of broadcast engineers by validating your skills with professional certification, by offering educational opportunities to maintain and expand those skills and by speaking out on technical regulatory issues that affect how you work.

All this adds up to keeping you at the top of your field, enhancing your value to your employer, or if you are self-employed, preparing you to meet the changing needs of your clients.

And when you join the Society of Broadcast Engineers, you get to know other engineers and technical people – your colleagues in our local area. You’re able to visit other radio and TV stations, and talk to people who deal with similar challenges and solutions. You’re not alone when you have a technical problem – there’s cameraderie and fellowship among the engineers, and cooperation that connects you with your peers no matter what station you work for.

When you join, you have access to professional training opportunities throughout the year, often for free. Recent sessions have included RF Safety, Lightning and Grounding and the prestigious Ennes Workshop. You get a first look at new technology like DTV and the Arbitron PPM, direct from the experts. And you can improve your job prospects and credentials with SBE Certification, accepted nationwide as a mark of your skills and commitment to your craft.

You don’t have to have Engineer in your job title to join – membership is open to Operations and IT staff, up-and-coming engineering students, and anyone involved in broadcasting. If you’re an engineering student, or learning new skills on the job, the SBE is a wealth of resources and a group of people who will welcome your interest.
