PPM
The January SBE Meeting was held at the Valpak facility on January 8th, 2009 at 12 noon.
The subject of the meeting was centered on the rollout of PPM for the Tampa St. Petersburg market. Tampa is on the roadmap to begin installation of PPM in first quarter 2009.
The following statement is from the Arbitron representative Alex Zucker.
"Arbitron is starting the roll-out of our new PPM system of audience measurement in the Tampa Bay region. We are presently "live" with PPM in New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Chicago, Los Angels and Houston, and now we are presently installing PPM in markets including Miami, Seattle, Minneapolis and others.
The Arbitron Portable People Meter system uses a passive audience measurement device - about the size of a small cell phone - to track media exposure. Carried throughout the day by randomly selected survey participants, the PPM device can track when and where they listen to radio as well as how they interact with other forms of media and entertainment.
One of the first important steps in bringing PPM to Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Clearwater is informing the engineers, management, sales, and programming staff in the area about PPM encoding. Our presentation includes a demo of the system, examples of the equipment, and a general overview of the methodology. Followed by a question and answer session.
This should be very informative and interesting for all parties concerned so please plan on attending if you can."
