From SBE Chapter 39, Tampa Bay, the word is:

"Eat More Fiber"

Everyone from the engineering staff to our doctor is telling us we need more fiber. For the month of April (Thursday, April 9th) our meeting will be all about fiber (not the kind the doctor recommends).

George Wicker of ADC will enlighten us on the technology of fiber.   George will be speaking about Fiber Optic Products and will cover some of the history of fiber, current fiber technology and (most important) its application in today's broadcast workplace, as well as expected future developments.  The presentation will contrast fiber versus copper infrastructure and the associated costs. There will be a demonstration of the new "bendable" fiber that defies the rules of bend radius and a new hybrid fiber connector for cameras that is being submitted to SMPTE for standards approval. Please bring a colleague even if they are not a member.

George has been a member of SMPTE for approximately 20 years and currently is serving on the Board of Managers for SMPTE in Atlanta.   George has worked with System Integration, ENG Cameras and Routing/ Switcher Systems. He currently is Senior Accounts Manager for ADC, marketing connectivity products to the Broadcast and Entertainment industry.
